The Great Outdoors- Final Project

The phrase "The Great Outdoors" is commonly known. When you classically think of the outdoors, you may think of beautiful sunsets, walks on the beach, awe-inspiring animals in their element, maybe you imagine snow covered peaks or the budding of spring. The outdoors are truly awe-some.

There is something powerful about being in touch with nature. As an outdoor enthusiast, I have come to discover that there is a lot more to the outdoors than meets the eye. Many things are often forgotten when daydreaming about the glory of nature. I wish to represent a few of the those things within this project.

Finding Your Way: It takes advanced planning with maps, trail guides, and GPS units to ensure you enter the correct slot canyon or take the right dirt road to get to your destination.

The Journey: There are times when your journey is halted based upon literal and figurative roadblocks.

Water: Water is a special commodity in the outdoors... Especially when out in the hot sun and exerting your body for a full day; it is important to drink lots of water, which is not always the easiest to come by.

Hygiene: Space for extra clothes is limited.  It may be necessary to hang dry your clothes after a wet day of hiking.

Physical Labor: At times, being a part of the outdoors requires high levels of exertion on your body and may leave you exhausted.

Heat: When the sun goes down, warmth can be hard to come by. Gathering wood to build a fire is necessary if permitted in the area.

Waste Excretion: There are no bathrooms located along the trails of the backcountry. It takes a little tricky maneuvering to master this.

All You Need: When you begin to plan for your trip, you begin with a backpack that you can fill but that will be all.

Light: If you have not yet reached your destination, but run out of light, you still need to keep going.

Cleaning Up: When all the fun is done, you still have to clean everything up, put everything away and go back to work.

Color Theory Assignment Four

Complementary: Blue & Orange
Analogous: Blue, Blue-Green, Aqua, Green
Monochromatic

This assignment was actually quite difficult for me because I feel like I am getting more picky! I didn't want to just "fulfill the assignment" I wanted to find something that met the assignment criteria and also told a story and also was something that I was passionate about.

I went out and shot a few times and got tons of photos but I just wasn't in love with any of them. I was frustrated by it, so I set aside more time on a different day after exercising to go shoot again. I found that I shoot the best when I am happy and there is lots of good natural light. I have to keep this in mind for the next assignment.

It turns out that I actually really liked these 3 photos and I'm pleased with the way they turned out.

High Key Low Key

THESE WERE TWO THAT THE CAMERA THOUGHT WERE CORRECT:

I really enjoyed this assignment because I was capable of using a tripod and that made a world of difference. I learned that the camera does not always know what the right thing to do is especially when it comes to exposure. I learned that it's okay to set up and rearrange to get what you want, but its okay to also just let stuff go and "go with the flow", but I'd say the biggest thing I learned is that...
WINDOW LIGHT + TRIPOD = MAGIC
